FAQs for The Last Time
How can I add an entry for dates in the past?
Basically, if you turn your phone to landscape mode you get an enhanced calendar control (in other words, turn the phone sideways when adding your entry). Look in the User Guide under "Add New Entry" for more details.
How can I backup my data?
For Android 6.0 or later users, The Last Time participates in Android's auto backup service in The Last Time version 1.1.0.1+. If you have the backup service enabled for your phone, then The Last Time will also be backed up automatically. See the Backup section of User Guide for details.
For Android versions earlier than 6.0, The Last Time was designed to keep your data private. With the Android platform this means that it has no internet connection so it cannot upload data anywhere, and it keeps its data in a private section of the phone's memory so other programs can't read it. Unfortunately, the downside of this privacy is that you either have to backup your whole phone to backup this app, or you have to have a rooted phone so you can gain the necessary access to backup just this app.
If your phone is rooted, the data is located at /data/data/com.jessepangburn.thelasttime. Backup that whole directory as it contains your preferences and database. If you ever do need to restore:
Make sure the app is all the way shut down- force quit from application manager is best. Then restore that directory, restart the app, and it'll be all good again as the state will be exactly as you left it when you made the backup.
How can I rename a Category or Activity?
This is available in version 1.1.0.1+, which can be used on Android 4.2 phones and later. Long press on a category or activity name and a floating menu will appear. Here you can choose to edit the name or delete the item altogether.
What else is on the list for future enhancements?
There's a lot I'd like to get to, but these items are on the list:
- Dragging categories and activities to re-order them
- Allow categories to be combined
- Allow activities to be moved to a different category
- Switch between 24 hour and AM/PM time (the app currently uses the phone's default setting, so if your phone is set to show 24 hour time then The Last Time will too- although events are added using AM/PM.)
- Get a reminder when something is statistically overdue by a set percentage. So say you normally check your oil every two weeks. If you've set the auto reminder at 30%, then when you've hit two weeks and about 4-5 days you'll get a reminder.
- Allow users to edit data from their computer for making a lot of updates. For example, if you were to backup online then it would be possible to allow you to edit your data from a web page on your computer.
- Ability to drag a widget to your desktop for adding a new entry to a given activity. For example, if you check your oil often, it would save time if you had a widget on your desktop specifically to add a "checked the oil" entry- rather than going into the app and navigating down into the specific activity. An alternative users can currently use for this is to set a reminder that appears often as you need it, then you just click on the reminder and it takes you right to the Add New Entry page.
- More statistics! Turns out some people like those a lot and want more and finer grained details.
